Professional Goals, Hopes and Dreams

Image
Some of the issues regarding quality in early childhood are teachers not being certified to teach certain subjects. The requirements to become a teacher are rigorous. This causes teacher shortage, because teachers are not paid a high salary. Being a child development teacher is a great opportunity, because there are not state tests to take. There is also an opportunity to become a child development director without being certified. My professional goal is to become a child development director at a university. My professional hope is to make every child and parent feel like they are to participate, give feedback, and learn in the classroom.

While searching online I found the National Head Start Association. The mission and vision of the association is to make sure that the whole child needs are met by working diligently for policy and institutional changes. The National Head Start Association joined forces with The Scotts Miracle-Gro Foundation in order to teach families how to grow their own fresh produce. Garden grants are granted to head start programs so that educators can purchase garden kits, educational curriculum, and garden training. This grant allows teachers to teach families and children how to grow fresh produce and learn about the health benefits of the produce. This website has a link for teachers to click on in order to apply for a $5,000 grant, and it consist of a link to click on in order to join an upcoming garden webinar or workshop. By viewing this website I gained new insights about the benefits of planting a garden at early head start centers. Children and parents get a chance to have hands ...

By viewing the podcast I learned that positive support from families and friends is important in order for children to develop positive cognitive and social skills. It also allows children to develop good health. The Global Children's Initiative website caught my attention in many ways. The two innovation clusters that caught my attention the most was the Aceleradora de Innovacion para la Primera Infancia in Mexico and the iLab Primeira Infancia in Brazil. The Aceleradora de Innovacion para la Primera Infancia in Mexico consists of researchers, professionals and scientists who focus on the health, living environment, and learning outcomes of young children during their first years of life. Once they find problems that exist in children lives they develop intervention strategies. Some of the problems that exist in children lives consists of academics, environmental stress, and chronic diseases. The iLab in Brazil is a laboratory that focuses on how parents and children interact...

"My Connections to Play"

Image
Two of my favorite quotes that summarize what play represented in my childhood are as follows: -Play gives children a chance to practice what they are learning. -Fred Rogers -Children need the freedom and time to play. Play is not a luxury. Play is a necessity.- Kay Redfield Jamison Some of the play items that I played with are listed below. Let's Go Fishing Game      As a child my cousins, friends, and neighbors played a large role in my childhood play time. They would come over to my house on the week end and play with me. I was the only child and had a lot of toys that entertained every child who came in contact with them. I feel that play today in the home environment is the same as it was when I was a child. I think that it is different in the school setting, because teachers and parents do not allow children to play because they are not aware of the benefits of playing. As a child playing was a way for me to socialize and interact with children my age....

Relationship Reflection

Relationships are important to me because they make me feel confident in my ability to do well in school. I am more likely to share ideas in class and contribute actively to class activities. I currently have positive relationships with my family and friends. My family and friends play an important part in my life by motivating me to succeed in school. As a teacher in the early childhood profession I realize that it is important to have a close academic relationship with my students because it contributes to academic success. Having warm, sensitive relationships help children to feel emotionally secure to learn.
