"My Connections to Play"

Two of my favorite quotes that summarize what play represented in my childhood are as follows:

-Play gives children a chance to practice what they are learning. -Fred Rogers
-Children need the freedom and time to play. Play is not a luxury. Play is a necessity.- Kay Redfield Jamison

Some of the play items that I played with are listed below.

As a child my cousins, friends, and neighbors played a large role in my childhood play time. They would come over to my house on the week end and play with me. I was the only child and had a lot of toys that entertained every child who came in contact with them. I feel that play today in the home environment is the same as it was when I was a child. I think that it is different in the school setting, because teachers and parents do not allow children to play because they are not aware of the benefits of playing. As a child playing was a way for me to socialize and interact with children my age. Playing with other children allowed me to learn about their personalities and determine if they would make good friends. I also learned Math skills by playing Math games. When other children know a certain subject better than other children they can play together and learn together.
